So, you’ve decided to host this year’s holiday meal? Whether you’re a first-time host or a seasoned entertainer, the first step to a successful event is to make a plan! When I host a dinner party or holiday meal, I always start by writing down everything, from the menu to the party plan. My plan is my roadmap that keeps me on track. No surprise here, I’m lost without this plan! Check out my 4 tips to your best holiday meal ever and tag me on IG or Facebook with your ideas too!

Write down the menu. Think about all of the things you want to serve and write it down on paper. Scan it to make sure you’ve covered all your bases. Do you have something for friends with dietary preferences or allergies? Did you happen to remember to include those family favorites you can’t live without? Now’s also the time to pull out family recipes or give your loved one a call to get their help with the recipe.

Next, I make a note of the dishes that I’ll need to prepare. If someone else is bringing a menu item, make a note of it so you don’t have to worry about making it. Highlight what you can buy already prepared.

Now, I think it would be a good idea to write down a grocery list. Have you checked your pantry and cabinets? What do you already have on hand or what needs to be refreshed? Remember to review the weekly circulars to see what’s on sale (gotta love those BOGOs) and what items have digital coupons.

Finally, the last thing to plan is your timeline. So, this step is really important to help you execute your event with ease. Break the menu into manageable steps. What can you do 1 to 2 days ahead? What can you do the day of? Think about how much time you’ll need from start to finish.
